This thangka portrays Gautama Buddha seated in meditation upon a lion-supported throne with an ornate Dharma wheel emblem. His hands hold an alms bowl blossoming with sacred flowers and medicinal fruit. Arranged gracefully around the throne are the Eight Close Sons (the Eight Great Bodhisattvas), including Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Maitreya, Ksitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarvanivarana-Vishkambhin, and Samantabhadra, set in a natural mountain and cloud landscape under a celestial rainbow.
