How It's Painted

Eight stages, in strict order. Skipping one is not a shortcut — it is a different painting.

The order is the discipline

Canvas, burnish, grid, drawing, base colour, shading, gold, face opening. A painter may not move forward until the previous stage is complete and correct; the master checks each one.

The face is opened last

The eyes are painted by the master alone, often on an auspicious day. Before that moment the canvas is an image; after it, tradition holds, it is a presence.

    Shading & Detailing

Fine brushwork creates depth, texture and intricate detail across every form.
